La famille JAMA va grandir avec la création de JAMA Cardiology, alors que Lancet n'a jamais lancé The Lancet Cardiology. Les soumissions d'articles sont acceptées dès octobre 2015 pour un premier numéro début 2016. Un éditorial (13 octobre 2015) dans le JAMA annonce cette stratégie. Les objectifs sont dans cet éditorial et le modèle économique semble être hybride : Open Access pour les auteurs qui veulent payer un APC (Article Processing Charge). Ce sera le 11ème JAMA de spécialité et la faille aura 12 revues. La dernière revue lancée a été JAMA Oncology qui aura bientôt un an, et dont le taux d'acceptation des manuscrits est de 26 %. The Lancet constitue sa collection 'Lancet Cardiology & Vascular Medicine' en compilant les articles des revues du groupe Lancet… et ne va probablement pas se lancer dans cette compétition car des revues prestigieuses en cardiologie sont chez Elsevier… à voir car marché concurrentiel. Le groupe du BMJ est très engagé en cardiologie car il publie Heart (volume 101), Heart Asia (volume 7), et Open Heart (volume 2).
Un extrait de l'édito : "JAMA Cardiology also will assign a high priority to serving the cardiovascular medicine author community. Our goal will be to provide initial review of submitted manuscripts within 3 to 5 days and complete external peer review within 4 to 5 weeks. Articles that have been accepted for publication will be published Online First approximately 2 months after acceptance, with publication in print to follow. Like all of the JAMA Network Journals, articles will be released online weekly and more frequently as warranted, followed by inclusion in formal monthly print issues. Posts on Twitter and Facebook, email alerts with electronic tables of contents and links to articles, and worldwide outreach to news media will promote rapid and extensive dissemination of JAMA Cardiology content worldwide. All research articles will be freely accessible 12 months after publication, and all of the content of JAMA Cardiology (along with that of JAMA and the other JAMA Network Journals) will be available free on the JAMA Network Reader. In addition, authors will be able to opt for immediate open access."
